How Dreadful is the 2020 Pandemic?
The year 2020 seems to
be a really hard time for the world as it has witnessed the ghastly effects of
the novel coronavirus. It started from a small region in China. It gradually
took a big shape over time by spreading rapidly among the people of other
countries. Several people across the globe have suffered the impacts of the
virus, and many are still suffering. Humanity seems to be under one of the
biggest threats of all times. We are all aware of the present condition of the
pandemic over the globe, but are we really aware of its intensity?
What is Pandemic?
Who thought that we
will be the generation after decades to witness another pandemic? There were
pandemics before, and the ones like the Spanish flu of 1918 and Ebola of 2014
can be compared to Covid-19 in terms of intensity. Do you wonder why these
pandemics, and not the other epidemics are considered to be same? For that, we
need to understand the term ‘pandemic’. Pandemic is a little different from the
epidemic. Let us see how. A pandemic is known as the global outbreak of a
deadly disease throughout the country, continent or the whole world that too
rapidly. While on the other hand, an epidemic is the rapid spreading of a
non-local disease, but it remains within a particular region or locality
affecting everyone there for a temporary period.
If we try to compare
that which is more dangerous in nature, then pandemic shall come first and then
epidemic. It is so because of the affecting capacity of a pandemic and its
novelty in origin, which makes it more threatening and difficult to cure.
Nothing explains it more aptly than the current scenario of coronavirus in the
world due to which millions are dying or in a serious health condition.
Source
This began from the
city of Wuhan in China in December 2019, and it spread to many other states and
countries like Italy, the United States, United Kingdom, etc. This virus is
suspected by the scientists to be originally found in bats or pangolins, and
somehow it got transmitted into the humans. Since it is a respiratory disease,
it spreads like wildfire. Some case reports suggest that it may have spread to
humans from the seafood market of Wuhan.
Awareness
It showed disastrous
results in Italy, Canada and the United States. Even in the United Kingdom, the
death toll rose as high as 40,000. Of course, there have been several
recoveries as well, but the number seems quite contrasting to the number of
deaths.
